We have had a brilliant year at Oaklands Park School. However, this was tinged with great sadness at the sudden loss of Sandra. Sandra was a huge part of AIMS and will be greatly missed by staff, volunteers, families and children. Sandra was a brilliant organiser and also playleader. She worked tirelessly for AIMS and in fact worked right up until the very end.
The Christmas party was a great success thanks to Sandra and to the Dawlish Spiritualist Church for providing the presents once again.
We had a “Remembering Sandra Day” on 1st March 2014 and were joined by some of Sandra’s relatives. The children made labels which they attached to helium balloons and then simultaneously let go of the balloons. It was an amazing sight to see. We then planted a tree in Sandra’s memory at the entrance to the school. A big thank you to Martin Parsons for organising the planting of the tree.
We have welcomed several new families so once again we are very busy.
The children have enjoyed making use of the outdoor space and are hoping for some good weather so that they can enjoy playing football, riding bikes, scooters etc and playing manhunt. However, as the weather conditions have not been ideal they have made many delicious treats in the cookery room.
The website is in the throes of being updated so please bear with us.
Once again we are participating in the Dawlish Rotary Swimathon to be held at Dawlish Leisure Centre on 6th April 2014. Many of the children have been busy making use of the swimming pool at Oaklands and practising their swimming skills in readiness.
We are lucky to still be part of the 5 charities Bingo which continues to be held at the Langstone Cliff. We also still have the support of the Swan Inn who hold an annual barbeque to raise funds for us.
We are also grateful to Estuary Rotary who raised £500.00 at Teignfest. We also took part in the Conkers Championship which raised £250.00 and The Open Day at the Manor House raised £111.00. The Carol concert in December raised almost £900.00.
This means we will be able to take part in many more days out over the next year. We already have a trip out to Clip n Climb in Exeter in April. We also have a day out planned at Haldon Forrest on 29th March where the children can enjoy den-building.
A massive thank you to everyone that has supported us. It is vital that we continue to fundraise to ensure that AIMS can continue. The money all goes towards the children and their families.
Please feel free to come along and visit us at Oaklands Park School on a Saturday morning and see how your fund-raising is being spent.
